Smoking Cessation

Smoking cessation treatment is simple, easy, and safe. Acupuncture treatment reduces cravings for cigarettes from 20 plus to only 3-5 a day. If you want to try acupuncture but aren’t fully ready to quit, you can easily cut your smoking in half, though more treatments would be required before fully quitting. Acupuncture reduces the withdrawal symptoms, such as irritability, headaches, and discomfort.

3 treatments are recommended for quitting. It is best to pick a quit date and schedule your first acupuncture treatment for that day.

Cost: $135 for a package of 3 treatments for smoking cessation,
for those ready to quit upon the first treatment.

Procedure: 5 needles are used in the ear, and 2 on the wrist. An
electrical stimulation device, similar to a TENS unit is attached to connect the 2 wrist points to 2 ear points. (The needles are extremely fine, sterilized, and single-use only). Treatment takes 45 minutes.

Why should you quit?
The 1990 Surgeon General’s Report includes these findings:
• After 1 year off cigarettes, the excess risk of heart disease and sudden death caused by smoking is reduced by half. After 15 years of abstinence, the risk of heart disease is similar to that of people who’ve never smoked.
• In 5 to 15 years, the risk of stroke for ex-smokers returns to the level of those who’ve never smoked.
• Male smokers who quit between ages 35 to 39 can add up to 15 years to their life. Female quitters in this age group can add up to 12 years. Men and women who quit at ages 65 to 69 increase their life expectancy by up to 3 years.
• People who quit smoking significantly decrease risk of lung disease, heart disease, emphysema, sudden death, cancer, hardening of the arteries, and the HOST of complications arising from long-term abuse of tobacco.
• Smokers get sick more often!
A MARS 2003 otc/drc study showed the following results:
29% of smokers had difficulty sleeping,
compared with 3% of the general population.

28% of smokers suffer sinus congestion/headaches regularly,
compared with 8% of the general population.

33% of smokers have abnormally high blood pressure,
compared with 15% of the general population.

28% of smokers suffer colds and cough regularly,
compared with 7% of the general population.

21% of smokers suffer migraine headaches,
compared with 4% of the general population.

34% of smokers suffer disabling fatigue,
compared with 2% of the general population.
• Children around smokers are sick more often.
• Smoking and second-hand smoke increases risk of disease, flu and colds, ear infections, asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
• Babies born to smokers are often developmentally challenged. Lower birth weight, higher hospitalization rates, and slower lung development are examples. In addition, they are more likely to smoke as adults
